Accessibility and Availability

Neighborhood

Established in 1869, you'll be staying in the historic Vickers Schoolhouse, its own countryside landmark. Situated on 3 acres in rural Miami County, you'll experience tranquility and wide open spaces that afford great views of breathtaking sunsets. Swing on the old tree swing, or on the old school swing! Sip tea and grill a steak on the back porch. Or, grab a friend for balance and take a spin on the old merry-go-round. Your resting place feels like it's a million miles out in the country, but restaurants, grocery stores and everything you need are as close as a 6 minute car ride. Looking for something fun to do? Miami County is known for its wineries, cider mill, and antique and up-cycled boutiques. Come for farm fresh fruit orchards, pecan groves, and berry patches. Ride the Miami County Trolley for a day of wine tasting, live music and farm to table dining! Want to throw a line? You'll be near Hillsdale Lake, Miami County State Fishing Lake, Middle Creek Lake, all stocked with bass, crappie, bluegill and catfish. A short distance south, you'll find the Marais des Cygnes National Wildlife Refuge with 5,000 acres of hunting, fishing and birding land, plus another 2,500 acres of wildlife sanctuary. Nearby Osawatomie, KS offers the eastern terminus of the Flint Hills Nature Trail. This rail trail stretches for 117 miles alongside the Marais Des Cygnes River, between rushing waters and towering bluffs, through rolling farmland and riparian woodlands, and it passes through the beautiful Flint Hills, one of the last remaining tallgrass prairie ecosystems in the world. Flint Hills Nature Trail forms a component of the coast-to-coast American Discovery Trail.

This is the 2nd year we've stayed at Vicker's Schoolhouse during our holiday travels. We actually had our small family to the schoolhouse this year on Christmas Day to celebrate after losing 2 our of dads this year. It was a perfect setting to our day! It is such a beautiful house that we feel comfortable and at home immediately. The house is always spotless and Lara thinks of everything you may need and more to make your stay enjoyable. She even left treats and toys for our cocker spaniels, which we always travel with. I dread staying in hotels because of lack cleanliness to my standards and our dogs, so we are so pleased Vicker's is so close to family and meets all our needs! See you next year!
